A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. Ezek. 36:26

The Condition of the Heart

  • Do you know the condition of your heart?

  • Do you have a hard time believing God loves you?

  • Do you have a hard time believing people love you?

  • Do you feel sad and lonely even when you are surrounded by many people?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need healing for a stony heart. The effects of a stony heart can clearly be recognized by looking at the parable of the sower found in Matthew 13:1-26. In this parable Jesus explains the different types of soil. The different types of soil represent different conditions of the heart. He explains that a heart that is stony does not have enough soil for seeds to take root and grow. A seed is referring to the Word of God that is sown into the heart. This can be directly compared to a person with a stony heart – they cannot receive and hold on to the most important Word from God, His love for them.
According to this parable, when trials come a person with a stony heart becomes easily offended. God sent His Word to heal; but, a person with a stony heart cannot receive it.

What is a Stony Heart?
In John Sandford’s book, The Transformation of the Inner Man, he talks about how the stony heart can begin with tiny stones during childhood. Each time pain is felt, due to the lack of attention or affection, a stone is formed. After a period of time, the stones form a “wall of protection” around the heart for protection against further hurt.
